The Napkin Skirt… now doesn’t that sound classy :) It is called the napkin skirt, because that’s just what it is- a skirt made from napkins. I picked up these four napkins at World Market last week. I love World Market dish towels and napkins. And they are cheap. The floral napkins are $3 a piece. The red napkins are $2. I actually only used three of the four napkins, making this an $8 skirt. I like that price tag :)
This is the easiest skirt to make, because everything is basically precut and hemmed for you.
After I had sewn it all together, I realized that it was a little big. Instead of just taking it in, I decided to add a few pleats to the back of the skirt.

Super cute. Just wondering if you could use elastic in the back, or would that change the look of the skirt? Im just not zipper savvy. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteGirllll this is SO Cute
ReplyDeleteShanelle, I contemplated the idea of adding elastic. it may change the look of the skirt a little, I am sure it would still be cute.
ReplyDeleteHere are my ideas:
You could add a 4 1/2 in piece of elastic. The same size of the entire band. If they make elastic that big.
Or you could add a 3/4 in piece of elastic- which is what I typically work. To just the tap of the band.
You could also add a 3/4 in piece of elastic to the bottom of the band. That might make the top of the band ruffle a little instead of lay flat. That could look cute too.
My last idea was to add a little piece of elastic just under where you put the bow. Then the bow could hide the elastic.
Those were my thoughts. I hope that helps. I would love to know how it all turns out.

Whoops. I just re read my comment. Sorry for all of the errors. I was using the IPad and I'm still getting used to it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for my first three suggestions I was only thinking of adding the elastic to the back of the waist band and not around the entire skirt.
Good luck!
What??? Beautiful skirt. Who would have thought of such a thing, great idea. Thank you for sharing.
