Cardio: it’s a dreaded word for many. Don’t get me wrong — I love running — but it isn’t always easy. Even though it might be super hard to find the time, it is well worth it. Cardio pumps up your heart rate, makes you sweat a little and burns off excess calories.
Aerobic exercise provides more oxygen to your lungs and blood to your heart (heart symbol). It has been proven to reduce your blood pressure and lower your cholesterol. It decreases the risk of injury by strengthening tissue structure. It also reduces stress — which may seem hard to believe, considering how stressful it can be to get out there and exercise — but it will give you the energy to tackle the rest of your day.
If it’s hard for you to do a long cardio bout all in one go, a good strategy is to break up your exercise into 10-minute increments throughout your day. Whether it is going for a quick jog around the block in the morning to wake up, or taking a walk with your child during the day, this a great way to fit cardio into your schedule without having to dread the treadmill or bike. Find something that works for you so you will stick to it and enjoy it at the same time!
Whitney, I hope you read this ‘cause I know how much you have always loved running ;)
